In the week between August 10 and 16, several musical, film, and exhibition events will take place in Ljubljana. Križanke remains the central venue with the ongoing Ljubljana Festival program, while Metelkova and various gallery spaces will also host a vibrant cultural lineup.
Monday: Accordions and Award-Winning Music Videos
The week begins with music and moving images. On Monday at 8 PM, the Knights of the Cross Church in Križanke will host an Accordion Evening titled "4 Bellows 4 Stories", featuring Stefano Bembi, Zoran Lupinc, Maurizio Marchesich, and Imad Saletović. An hour later, at 9 PM, the Summer Cinema at the Museum Platform (Metelkova 2a) will screen the winning music videos of the 17th Tresk Festival.
Tuesday: Mahler Arrangements and the Start of a Film Festival
Tuesday afternoon at 5 PM brings an exhibition opening at the TAM-TAM Street Gallery on Vegova Street. Painting graduate Katarina Snoj and graphic design graduate Tim Topić, recipients of the UL ALUO 2024/25 award for exceptional creative and study achievements, will present their work. In the evening at 8 PM, Križanke will host the "Mahler in Ljubljana" concert. Ensemble Dissonance, led by conductor Uroš Lajovic and featuring baritone Domen Križaj, will perform chamber arrangements of the composer's early works. Meanwhile, cinema lovers can attend the opening of the "Summer on the Screen and Between the Covers" festival at 9 PM at Metelkova, featuring the French animated feature film Persepolis.
Wednesday: Mladi Levi Announcement and the Berlin Nonet
On Wednesday at 11 AM, a press conference will be held at the Old Power Station (Stara mestna elektrarna) to present the Mladi Levi international festival, which officially begins in the second half of August. In the evening at 8 PM, the Knights of the Cross Church will be filled with the sounds of the Berlin Nonet chamber ensemble, which includes violinist Marlene Ito, violist Joaquin Riquelme Garcia, cellist Jaka Stadler, and double bassist Todor Marković.
Thursday: Poetic Manual and a Harp Quartet
Thursday evening at 7 PM offers a literary event at the LUDa bookstore on Trubarjeva Street, where author Monika Vrečar will present her poetic self-help manual titled Turn the Game (Obrni igro). At 8 PM, the Slovenian harp quartet SIH4RPS will perform at Križanke as part of the Ljubljana Festival.
Friday: Donizetti's The Elixir of Love at the National Gallery
The end of the workweek in the capital will be marked by opera. On Friday at 8 PM, the Pehlivanian Professional Opera Academy, which connects young conductors and singers with experienced mentors, will perform at the National Gallery on Prešernova Street. They will present Donizetti's The Elixir of Love to the audience.
