As Katarina Hergouth, head of the CD exhibition program and project manager, stated at Tuesday's press preview, the National and University Library (NUK) is the central project partner. The opening event promises a unique staging directed by Ajda Valcl, featuring students from SVŠGUGL, AGRFT, and ALUO.
A Walk Through Four Chapters and the Poet's Mental Cosmos
The exhibition places Kosovel into a broader context—ranging from the intimate and biographical to the planetary and cosmic, which became a metaphor for timelessness in his work. The thematic sections of the exhibition are divided into four chapters: Slovenian, contemporary, European, and eternal.
On display are original manuscripts, personal items, documentary material, first book and periodical publications, and works by artists and thinkers of the time. Because original manuscripts are extremely fragile, they will be rotated every three months for preservation. Exhibition curator mag. Marijan Rupert from NUK noted Kosovel's ongoing relevance, pointing out that the problems of the modern world closely mirror those of the 1920s and 1930s.
The Exhibition as a Modern Experience by a Younger Generation
The setup transcends a traditional museum experience, largely thanks to students of the second-cycle Interactive Design program at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) in Ljubljana, working under the guidance of their professors. These young creators designed the spatial and visual layout, incorporating interactive elements, soundscapes, multimedia interventions, and participatory highlights.
Katarina Hergouth highlighted the balance achieved between documentary material and modern technologies, as the contents are enhanced with sound showers, digital games, and immersive projections created in part using artificial intelligence to analyze Kosovel's poetry.
Practical Information and Ticketing
The exhibition is open from September 16, 2026, to May 9, 2027. The regular ticket price is €8.00, while the reduced price for those under 25, over 65, and retirees is €6.00.
- Free Admission: Children under 10 years old, holders of the EU Disability Card, assistants to disabled persons, tourist guides, the unemployed, and holders of ICOM, PRESS, SMD, SUZD, and AICA cards.
- Family and Group Discounts: Family tickets (up to two adults and up to three children or youths under 25) cost €16.00. School groups and organized groups enjoy special discounts (gallery-only entry ranges from €4.00 to €5.00 per person, while guided tours are available upon prior reservation with an additional fee of €20 per group).
- Public Tours: Public tours of the exhibition are free of charge (only the ticket price applies), with a limited number of spots. Guided tours in English are available upon arrangement.
An extensive educational program has also been designed alongside the exhibition, featuring curated expert tours complemented by family and youth visits.
