A Vibrant Program with Over 60 Free Events
As part of this year's EMW, the City of Ljubljana is organizing 8 permanent measures, 12 weekly activities, and more than 60 daily events that are entirely free for visitors. The program combines daily activities, awareness-raising on the benefits of walking, cycling, and public transport, and special highlights aimed at youth. Among other events, Thursday, September 17, will feature the event "Youth, Catch the Rhythm of Sustainable Mobility!"on Prešeren Square from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, which will continue at BAZA, the Ljubljana Youth Center. Organizers will also use the occasion to highlight the safe use of e-scooters and the proper use of the city's more than 100 dedicated parking zones for them.
Street Closures and a Bustling Weekend Vibe
Throughout the campaign, numerous streets and squares will be closed to motor traffic and transformed into venues for social and recreational events:
- Thursday, September 17 (3:00 PM – 10:00 PM): The access road to the Sever garages at Ambrožev trg 3 will be closed for the "Sustainable Afterparty for Youth" event. Trajnostni afterparty za mlade bo zaprta dovozna cesta za Severjeve garaže na Ambroževem trgu 3.
- Saturday, September 19 (7:30 AM – 10:30 PM): The "Vošnjakovanje" event will take place, closing Vošnjakova ulica from Hotel Lev to Dvorakova ulica.
- Sunday, September 20: Major city locations will be closed—from 9:30 AM to 10:30 PM Poljanska cesta between Peglezen and Ulica Janeza Pavla II) from 8:00 AM to 20:00 PM for "Green City Stara Šiška" (Medvedova ulica between Frankopanska and Žibertova ulica), and from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM for "Verovškova Fest - Street for People" (Verovškova ulica between Gasilska cesta and Drenikova ulica). Zeleno mesto Stara Šiška (Medvedova med Frankopansko in Žibertovo ulico) ter med 11. in 19. uro Verovškova fest – Ulica za ljudi (Verovškova ulica med Gasilsko cesto in Drenikovo ulico).
- Tuesday, September 22: Zapore za prireditve vključujejo Jesenski triatlon vrtca Miškolin (makadamski odsek v Zalogu), izobraževalno-gibalni poligon na delu Črtomirove ulice in gibalno zabavo na Eipprovi ulici.
Free Public Transport on Car-Free Day
The highlight of the week will take place next Tuesday, Car-Free Day on September 22, 2026, when the use of Ljubljana Passenger Transport (LPP) buses on city lines within Zone 1 will be entirely free of charge, along with P+R parking lots. Throughout the week, the City Municipality will also provide free bus transportation to EMW events for all kindergartens and primary schools within the municipality. Additionally, city officials note the long-term goal of transitioning the LPP fleet to zero-emission mobility by 2030, supported this year by new investments in electric and hydrogen-powered buses.
